Ancestry Library Edition (in library use only)
One of the most popular GALILEO databases, “Ancestry Library Edition” provides access to over 6 billion genealogical records, including federal census records, which are available for all states for the period 1790 through 1930. Over 3 million names are indexed on Georgia Deaths, 1919-1998, and over 90 million are listed on the Social Security Death Index.
This database, unlike Ancestry Library Edition, can be accessed on GALILEO by library patrons using their computers at home. Over 28,000 books, most of them family histories and local histories, are available in full text. The texts of these books can be searched by personal name, place, and subject. Approximately 90% of the federal census records available on Ancestry Library Edition are available on Heritage Quest.
All of these newspapers can be accessed on GALILEO by clicking on “Browse by Type” and then selecting “Newspapers.” Newspapers are currently available for Albany, Americus, Athens, Atlanta, Columbus, Dublin, Macon, Milledgeville, Savannah, Thomasville, and Valdosta.
This website can be used to locate the names and dates of birth and death for over 71 million individuals buried in over 250,000 cemeteries. Most of these cemeteries are located in the United States, but cemeteries in over 170 other countries are included. If the researcher is not sure of the name of the cemetery in which his ancestor is buried, it is possible to search by personal name, state, and county as well. In our part of the world, 107 cemeteries in Appling County, 50 in Bacon, 38 in Clinch, 54 in Pierce, and 65 in Ware are included in the survey.
